01 · Problem
Electric vehicles are growing in Tunisia, but charging infrastructure is still sparse and poorly documented. Drivers had no reliable way to find nearby charging stations, check what connectors they offered, or know whether a station even existed before driving to it. Existing global apps had incomplete or outdated data for the region.
02 · My role
I led the mobile development at iTrend, building the iOS app from the ground up: the interactive map, station details, community submissions, and push notifications. I also worked on the data strategy, syncing an external stations API with our own database so the community could add and maintain stations that the API didn't cover.
03 · Key decisions
- A
Caching the stations API
To keep API costs low and support community-added stations, we store all stations in our own database and sync with the external API once a week to pick up new ones.
- B
Smooth map performance
Stations are clustered on the map so Google Maps stays fast and responsive, even on mid-range Android phones.
- C
Push notifications for new stations
Users get a push notification whenever a new station is added, so they always know where they can charge.
